76% of BlackBerry users could get more from their device

Jelly Communications launches Smartphone clinic at the Kingston Business Expo on November 13, 2008

Kingston, 4 November, 2008: A survey of businesses by Jelly Communications, the Kingston-based independent business mobile provider, reveals that around three out of every four BlackBerry® business users are not using the full functionality of their handsets. This means that businesses are not getting the full benefits of potential time and cost savings from their business mobiles.

Jelly Communications is offering anyone who visits its stand at the Kingston Business Expo a smartphone makeover.  Delegates can gain advice and tips on how to get more from their existing phone, whether that is a BlackBerry or another make of handset.  Jelly’s in-house technical specialists will be available to trouble shoot problems that delegates might be having with getting emails to their smartphones or accessing documents or software.

Jelly Communications’, sales manager, John Jones said: “I often meet people who like the idea of a smartphone for business use, but having purchased one are frustrated at not being able to get it to work in all the ways they thought it would.  Businesses that invest in this technology shouldn’t just be left to set up the device, as is so often the case, but given assistance and training as part of the service they receive. Today’s handsets offer so many benefits to users, but without the knowledge of how to get the best out of them, the benefits are wasted.”

Using a BlackBerry is easy, once you get used to it, but it is the set-up that requires a certain level of technical understanding. The set-up procedure for smartphones is often where people have problems getting emails to the handset or synching their diaries.

The survey showed that of the top BlackBerry functions, 16% weren’t emailing, 72% weren’t accessing the internet and 76% weren’t using the diary planner.  Emailing on the move, accessing the internet and using a synched diary with a laptop or PC are the key benefits to be gained from a smartphone such as the BlackBerry.

Jones comments: “The BlackBerry is a revolutionary device and despite other smartphones recently launching to the market, it is still the handset of choice for most businesses. In a small business where there is unlikely to be any IT or telecommunications expertise in-house, it’s so important to choose a provider that will not only recommend the right deal, but make sure that you are set up and given proper training. Otherwise it’s like buying a Porsche to do your shopping in.”

Jelly Communications is exhibiting at the Kingston Expo on Thursday, 13 November from 9:30am – 5.00pm.  The Expo takes place at Richmond Business School, Parkshot, Richmond TW9 2RE.

The Business Expo is an initiative by the Kingston Chamber of Commerce and will provide local companies with an opportunity to reach up to 12000 business owners, with around 500 visitors expected during the course of the day. Attendance at the show is free and visitors can register at www.kingstonbusinessexpo.co.uk.
