Build South London

The Build South London Network is a focal point for construction activity in South London for both the supply and demand sides – a route to market for all construction related business support and supply chain opportunities. The network is led by main contractors, local and regional business support organisations, the Centre of Excellence, Construction Federations and small local construction businesses.

Procurers have responsibility in stimulating improvement and change within their supply chains so that as much work as possible is undertaken by local businesses. By joining the Build South London network, small and medium size businesses will discover what they need to know and do to compete more effectively in the supply chain enabling the network to provide demand led business and skills development support.

Aims and Objectives

• Deliver business benefits for construction procurers and Supply Chains including profit, best value, productivity, safe working and future-proofing
• Stimulate the local construction economy and champion sustainable development
• Stimulate and incentivise small and medium size businesses and micro-businesses in engagement and development
• Facilitate partnering amongst business support organisations, with a view to jointly developing a coherent customer offering
• Demonstrate the link between business and skills development and profit

How does Build South London Work?
The Build South London network will develop and deliver activities to meet local priorities providing:

• Access to the business and skills support and mentoring needed for individual local businesses to improve and develop so they can get work in the supply chain
• Networking e.g. Construction Marketplaces (Meet the Buyer type events), workshops bringing procurer main contractors and Business Support Organisations together with local businesses
• Good practice workshops in each participating Borough covering for example, assisting businesses to pre-qualify and complete winning tenders or ‘green construction practices’ working to add value to any existing local activities or plug gaps in local provision
• A referral mechanism to other appropriate business support programmes working in close partnership with Business Link in London and local, Borough based business support initiatives.
• A searchable online database and website advertising supply chain opportunities and offering work experience placements and apprentice sharing facilities
• Links to register on Compete4 (the Olympic contract database), Constructionline and/or EXOR for businesses with the existing capability to meet their criteria
