Business Retention ServiceRetaining South London’s existing businesses and safequarding jobs is vital to our future economic prosperity.
South London Business Ltd is a business led public/private sector partnership, which promotes the economic development of South London. We work with our partners in industry, local authorities, Chambers of Commerce and regional development agencies to identify the opportunities and challenges facing businesses based in South London.
What is Business Retention?
Each year our business retention team visit companies of all sizes across South London, interviewing senior members of their management teams. During these interviews many companies do not highlight any concerns or difficulties and confirm their intention to remain in South London. Others however, report that they are considering relocating to overcome particular obstacles; in many cases these are local obstacles. Our role is to offer free support, advice and guidance on how to overcome issues that may affect a company’s desire or ability to remian and prosper in South London.
How can we help your business?
In partnership with the South London local authorities and the London Development Agency we aim to assist businesses, such as yours, with any issues of immediate concern or barriers to further growth, such as transport; planning; premises; the local environment; recruitment; workforce training; and increased productivity. We will work closely with you and your management team to broker a solution or plan a way forward.
During the last twelve months we have helped secure or retain approximately 1000 jobs for local companies. Our most recent success involved a manufacturing company. We worked closely with both the local authority and the company to broker a way forward on a number of planning-related issues. Our intervention helped resolve these issues and the company has committed to remaining in the borough – safequarding nearly 300 jobs.
Other issues we have tackled recently on behalf of businesses include:
• Brokerage in environmental and parking /planning issues with a local authority and Transport for London.
• Expansion of a major retail site and subsequent Section 106 issues.
• Amendments to the operation of Controlled Parking Zones.
• Supporting the economic case for the redevelopment of over 80,000 sq ft of commercial factory space.
The Business Retention Programme is funded by the London Development Agency, the Mayor of London’s economic development agency.
