Go Green training free

19th February 2009

Businesses who want to boost their green credentials can benefit from a programme of free training courses as part of the Go Green Richmond upon Thames initiative.

To support companies who want to improve their resource efficiency, the Council is providing courses in motivating staff to be resource efficient and in implementing an accredited Environmental Management System (EMS)*.

Cabinet Member for Environment on Richmond Council, Cllr Martin Elengorn, said:

“We are working to make the Council as efficient as possible. We also want to help businesses to do the same; in these tough times it is especially important.

“Businesses are increasingly keen on boosting their environmental performance. The establishment of an Environmental Management System enables them to monitor their performance and show stakeholders just how much their sustainability credentials are improving.”

Getting staff included in resource efficiency is required for the Advanced level of the Go Green Richmond upon Thames award scheme and the Keen to be Green seminar (26 February) will provide businesses with tips on how to raise awareness of environmental procedures and motivate staff.

A formal Environmental Management System is required to obtain the Exceptional level of the Go Green Richmond upon Thames award scheme. Haymarket Media Group, with offices at Teddington Lock, have just received the first Exceptional award in the borough.

* An EMS not only aids a business to improve their environmental performance, but can also ensure cost savings are achieved. Gaining a formal accreditation can also give businesses a competitive advantage. The training is suitable for small businesses wanting to take a step-by-step approach as well as large businesses considering ISO14001 accreditation.
