How to be a firm winner!

The search continues for the best firms south of the Thames, through the South London Business Awards 2010, in association with HSBC. The prestigious award scheme has been masterminded by South London Business and Newsquest. Colourful Radio is also supporting the awards as media partners. The award launch ceremony took place on Friday, November 20, at Delfina, London Bridge. In 2009, more than 250 companies entered the awards, and more companies are expected to sign up in 2010.

A total of 12 different awards are up for grabs, covering businesses of all sizes, with customer service, innovation and training among the categories. Chief executive of South London Business, Peter Pledger, said: “Entry is free but winning is priceless.” Stephen Hurton, of Proper Oils, which was highly commended in the Innovation
Award category said: “It was great to be shortlisted for the second consecutive year. “Proper Oils (which manufactures biodiesel) has innovation at the heart of what we do, not only to drive the economic return, but also to maximise the many social and environmental benefits.

All finalists will have the chance to showcase their company and its achievements, and will receive valuable media exposure during the competition and once the results are known. Carol Bagnald, HSBC’s regional commercial director for London, said “HSBC is delighted to sponsor the South London Business Awards as promoting local business is key to the economic success of the region. “I am delighted to sponsor these awards. Despite the challenging economic climate, new businesses have emerged and existing businesses consolidated and even grown their position in the market. “It is amazing how adversity brings out the best in people. “We applaud the winners and their achievements, which will drive London forward when we emerge from recession. “The deadline for entries is February 19, and the winners will be announced at a glittering awards ceremony at Crystal Palace FC on May 20.
