Local firms working in the construction industry are being invited to one of two free special events to help them land more contracts and beat the recession.
Dubbed ‘Build South London – Getting More Construction Work’ the events will take place, one in Sutton and one in Merton. They will put local builders in touch with major construction companies and councils to find out what contract opportunites are now available ; to learn how to increase their chances of being asked to tender for work; and to access business support and training.
The twin events are organised by South London Business supported by Natwest Bank, the London Development Agency’s Supply London programme, and by Sutton and Merton Councils.
The Sutton event takes place on Thursday September 11th at Carshalton College; the Merton event at Hotel Antoinette, Wimbledon, on Thursday September 18th. Both run from 4 to 6.30pm.
“ These events are all about putting local building firms in contact with councils and companies that have major developments underway. They will find out how to market themselves effectively and how to appeal to clients that require sub-contractors who understand sustainable construction practices,†said Peter Pledger, Chief Executive of South London Business.
Among the major construction companies represented at the events will be Carillion, Durtnell, HBG, Mansell, Saltash, KNK and Smith & Byford.
Up for grabs at the Sutton event are all council maintenance projects led by Mansell, Sutton Housing Association projects led by KNK valued at £2.5 million per annum, and capital projects led by Saltash worth £3m per annum.
In Merton there will be work opportunities in the Stanley Park High School project led by HBG, valued at £35 million, capital projects run by Saltash worth £1 million per annum and further capital projects run by Durtnell & Sons.
“If you are working in the construction industry from demolition to ductwork, roofing to radiators, painting to plumbing, in fact any sector at all, then these events are for you,†said Mr Pledger
