New London Overground Network, Connecting Directly to South London

The old East London line has been extended and is now part of the London Overground network. You can expect a faster and more frequent service, on new air-conditioned and fully accessible trains. The line will be open on 23 May 2010.

The full line will open on 23 May 2010 and will run from Dalston Junction in the north to New Cross, Crystal Palace and West Croydon in the south. By May 2011 it will be extended it to Highbury & Islington.

There are also plans to extend the line west from Surrey Quays to Clapham Junction.

The line will form part of the wider London Overground orbital network, which will allow you to travel around London by train without having to enter central London.

Timetable

The new London Overground will provide a faster, more direct route for many journeys.

Dalston Junction - New Cross and New Cross Gate, 27 April 2010
This section of the line has now opened with a limited preview service running Monday to Fridays between 07:00 and 20:00 only. It will build up towards a full timetable by 23 May 2010.


At the moment trains run every seven to eight minutes, with half the trains going Dalston Junction to New Cross, and half the trains going Dalston Junction t o New Cross Gate.

Dalston Junction - New Cross/Crystal Palace and West Croydon
The full line will open on 23 May 2010. Trains will run every 15 minutes on each of the three branches, meaning there are trains every five minutes between Dalston Junction and Surrey Quays and trains every seven to eight minutes between Surrey Quays and Sydenham.

By May 2011, 12 trains (increasing to 16 when the line is extended to Clapham Junction in 2012), will run every hour in each direction through the central section, with eight trains an hour between Highbury & Islington and Dalston Junction.
