SLB Logistics Launch

South London Business launched its new apprenticeship training agency (ATA), SLB Logistics at two events both held in March.

SLB Logistics is a new government-backed company that removes all the worries that deter SME’s and some large companies from taking on apprentices. SLB Logistics employs the apprentices direct and then works with the company to match the appropriate candidate with their business needs.

The first event on the 17th March was aimed at raising awareness around the services and help that is available to them.  Attended by representatives from a number of training providers specialising in supporting this sector, all those that attended agreed that the event had been a success at helping them gain a better understanding how to access this service.

The second event held on 23rd March, was aimed at increasing awareness amongst young people aged between 16 - 18 years that would be eligible to register for the scheme.  An open day session was held at Peckham Job Centre Plus, were potential candidates were able to drop in for more information on what courses were available and how they should go about registering for the scheme.

Maybe your business could use an extra, willing pair of hands in these challenging economic times and you support the idea of taking on an apprentice but you’re put off by the hassle of getting things organised, finding the right person, setting up their training requirements …

SLB Logistics ATA, is based on the highly successful Australian model that is now being promoted by the UK Government. We are looking for employers that are willing to commit to a 9 month placement, the time it will take for the apprentice to complete the qualification.

Would your Logistics business take on an apprentice if …

There were no recruitment costs and no extra admin involved
The ideal candidate was matched to your requirements
Someone else arranged and monitored their NVQ training
All you had to do is to provide the placement, and give them work

We are looking for employers that are willing to commit to a 9 month placement, the time it will take for the apprentice to complete the qualification.  However, this is a flexible and demand-led approach which means you, the host business, can hand back the apprentice to SLB Logistics with just four week’s notice if circumstances change.
