Employees facing redundancy are being given the chance to re-train for new job opportunities. South London Business is running the project which can also offer advice to firms who are having to lay off staff as a result of the recession.
The project, which runs until December 2010, has been made possible through a grant from the Learning & Skills Council and the European Social Fund. The Response to Redundancy programme is open to anyone made redundant within the past three months or who is currently under notice of redundancy.
It covers employees within the boroughs of Richmond, Kingston, Merton, Sutton, Croydon, Bromley, Bexley, Greenwich and Lewisham.
“The aim is to equip individuals with the skills needed to help them to secure new work as it becomes available. This could mean re-training to take advantage of new employment opportunities as they emerge,†said Peter Pledger, chief executive of South London Business.
The courses are free and include an individual training needs analysis, CV writing, coping with change, IT tuition, business administration, project management and team leading.
South London Business also wants to hear from companies that have placed staff under notice of redundancy so that they can be offered support and guidance through a very traumatic time.
