South London Business Improvement Districts (BIDs)

The Mayor of London's BID awards were held recently where Team London Bridge received the 'BID of the Year' and 'Best Partnership' awards.

Before the BID was formed in 2006, 'London Bridge' was a bridge made famous by a nursery rhyme and a railway station, and the area was habitually known as the Pool of London. Now the area of London Bridge is a flourishing centre of business and a close-knit community with a growing domestic and international profile. This is being achieved through a wide range of multi-faceted and socially responsible initiatives.

Amongst the projects delivered by Team London Bridge are:

  • Three Pocket Plazas regenerating underused public space leading to 90% less antisocial behaviour in one location, recognition as a Capital Growth Site for another, and an increase in footfall and business around all sites;
  • A community recycle scheme collecting 65 tonnes of business waste, saving 70% costs for 50+ businesses;
  • Over 5,000 local workers have signed up to be a Dealcard holder and receive offers and promotions that encourage shopping locally.

Development of Bankside and London Bridge

The 'Best Partnership' award was presented to a Logistics Group where Team London Bridge and Bankside have partnered and will over the next five years transform the two areas.

A debrief has been put together by the schemes to keep local employees and residents informed.
